Support for non-Cisco switches: HP & 3com

Postby ortiz » Thu Dec 06, 2007 9:33 am

Interested in inventorying and programming non-Cisco switches? Please consider testing a new free module that switch information to be queried, ports to be enabled and vlans programmed statically to ports.

We're doing tests with switches from other vendors than Cisco (starting with 3com & HP) and would like to know
a) who is interested in FreeNAC working with non-Cisco switches
b) if some of you could test on your switches and report the results back.

The new scripts are snmp_scan2.php and snmp_set_port2.php. These two scripts are supposed to have the same functionality as the 'cisco ones' currently in FreeNAC, with the difference that they are designed to be used on both Cisco and non-Cisco switches. Please try them out and find/report bugs and inaccuracies along with a description of the switch where you tested on.

These two scripts rely on a new class called Switch_SNMP. The code in this class is not yet finished (some improvements needed), as it is still in beta phase, but you're welcome to analyse the code and suggest enhancements or point out bugs. This class at the moment provides enough functionality to perform the tasks required by the two scripts above mentioned. The capabilities we could add to this class will depend on the requests/feedback we receive from your tests.

The switches we tested on are:
* Cisco Catalyst 2960G
* Cisco Catalyst 2950
* 3COM 3812
* HP Procurve 2600

To get these new feature, use FreeNAC branch 3.0 from subversion (see http://freenac.net/en/community/downloads). Then in in /opt/nac/ do an:
Code: Select all
svn update

Please test and report bugs/inaccuracies in the Support forum, or suggest enhancements in the development forum.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation
